My store is slow on mobile — what is that costing me? — answered by Engineer Saeed Baatiah
Slowness costs you visitors before they see the product, and most Saudi purchasing happens on mobile, so the effect is direct. The most common causes in stores: unoptimised images uploaded straight off a camera, installed apps nobody uses, heavy fonts, and tracking scripts accumulated from old campaigns. The first three are fixable without changing your platform.
Start by measuring rather than guessing: open a product page on a phone over a normal connection rather than Wi-Fi, and count the seconds until you see the image and the price. Then run a free tool like PageSpeed Insights on the product-page URL specifically rather than the homepage — the product page is what decides the purchase and is usually the heaviest.
The causes in the order they usually appear: images uploaded at full camera dimensions (which alone can be most of the weight), apps installed during past experiments still loading while you no longer use them, tracking scripts accumulated from finished ad campaigns, and multiple font weights. The first three are fixable today without a developer and without changing your platform.
- Measure the product page, not the homepage — it decides the purchase
- Unoptimised images are usually most of the weight
- Remove apps and tracking scripts you no longer use
